Here are the pros, cons, and considerations for different options to brighten your eyes.
Option 1:
Injectables like BOTOX® and Dysport® are non-invasive options to temporarily relax the muscles that cause wrinkles between the brows and around the eyes and forehead.
Pros: Injectables are a safe, effective and non-invasive way to rejuvenate the appearance of the skin around the eyes, particularly crow’s feet and wrinkles between the brows. Healing time is minimal and the results can be seen just a few days after treatment.
Cons: There can be mild bruising and swelling that disappears in a few days. Eventually, injectables are fully absorbed and eliminated by the body, making it necessary to re-inject treatments every 3-6 months to maintain results.
Injectables are not a long-term solution to deep wrinkles, furrowed brows, thinning skin, or visible fat pads. In fact, if the skin is significantly loose and wrinkly, injectables can make the eyes look even more aged.
Option 2:
Blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery is one of the most commonly performed procedures in the United States. It addresses wrinkles, aging skin, and the appearance of fat pads around the eyes.
For upper eyelids, maturing skin often becomes inelastic and begins to droop, causing a hooded appearance. Underneath the eye, thinning skin typically increases the appearance of fat pads and dark vessels.
Eyelid surgery rejuvenates the eyes by eliminating any excess skin and/or puffy fat pads.
Incisions for upper eyelid surgery are made discretely in the natural crease of the lid, while for lower blepharoplasty, the incision can be made along the inside of the eyelid to remove fat from underneath.
Pros: Blepharoplasty is a longer-term solution that takes years off the eyes and creates a brighter, more youthful appearance. This procedure can be performed in the comfort of our Orange office under local anesthesia in less than an hour. It’s a fast and effective way to dramatically reverse the signs of aging.
Cons: Blepharoplasty is invasive surgery that causes significant bruising and swelling for 7-10 days. For most people, it takes about one month to see the results due to initial swelling and may take several months to fully heal and the scar to mature and fade.
