Treat Your Skin With Care This Summer

copy of thinking about skincare picture id485724932 Your skin puts up with a lot. The sun, the wind, stress, and even pollution can take its toll – not to mention that very often it gets neglected and just isn’t taken care of as it should be. Eventually, you may decide you want a facelift or another procedure to help with wrinkles and lines. Although plastic surgery is a great option, you should also always take care of your skin, especially during the sweltering summer months.

Watch your sun exposure

Spending time outside is one of the best things about the summer, and the sun provides vitamin D to help us stay happy and healthy. But as we all know, too much sun is a bad thing.

If possible, stay inside from 10 am until 4 pm, because this is when the sun is at its strongest. If you do go outside and will be out there for more than 20 minutes, don’t forget the sunscreen – even if it is a cloudy day. Use an SPF of at least 30, and reapply often. Cover yourself with a long sleeve shirt, pants, and a wide-brimmed hat that offers lots of shade. Make sure you take care of your eyes as well, with sunglasses that block UV rays.

You may want a tan, but too much sun damages skin permanently. If you do decide to sunbathe, you should do it for no longer than 20 minutes per day.

Check your skin

If you’ve had bad sunburns in the past, your risk for skin cancer is increased. Pay attention to any spots or moles on your body that look suspicious, and see your doctor if something just doesn’t seem right about your skin.

Dr. Johnny Mao and the staff at Mao Facial Plastic Surgery are always there to help you look your best, but don’t forget to take care of yourself as well! You can help your skin and face to look young and beautiful by protecting yourself from the sun.
